Partition from glass blocks in the interior. Single room design 34 m² in Moscow
Have you ever seen an apartment that looks like an art object and yet is livable, comfortable and cozy. Well, you’ll see now. Recently we came across very interesting customers – a young couple, who are open to experiments. With a light heart we took up the most unusual materials, furniture and finishes. A small spoiler: a partition made of glass blocks and decorative elements in the avant-garde style became a feature of the interior.
Kitchen
We started experimenting within the modern flexible contemporary style. Then the pursuit of clear geometry led us to a vibrant vanguard. Spheres, circles, squares, vertical and diagonal, thin and wide stripes, like decorations, made the interior theatrical, and lemon yellow increased the degree of shocking.
Bedroom
With this project we wanted to show that in modern design there is no place for hackneyed rules and conventions, so glass blocks suddenly appeared in the bedroom. (In the bedroom, Karl!) Didn’t you expect? In the 1980s, these were muddy glass bricks with an uneven surface. They were preferred to be installed in non-residential walk-through areas – in the halls of clinics, entrances to grocery stores and on stairwells of apartment buildings. And thanks to the new level of their quality, glass blocks have become an unbroken decorative element.
In the bedroom, we used glass blocks to separate the dressing room from the main area. Why did we choose them? First, they do not evoke negative associations among our young customers. Only their aesthetic and practical value comes to the fore. Secondly, compared to other materials for zoning and decorative design (drywall or brick, for example), they perfectly transmit light, as if through a prism, beautifully highlighting the darker part of the room. As soon as you turn on the lamp in the dressing room in the evening, the light from the side of the room begins to shine. It works as magically and hypnotically as fire in a fireplace.
Bathroom
Only silhouettes are visible. This is one of the most obvious advantages of glass blocks is their opacity. Therefore, the bathroom is the most organic room for them. They are made of glass, so they are not afraid of moisture.
In our project, glass blocks serve not only as a practical purpose, being mainly a shower wall, but also have a decorative function. Often, it is in the bathroom that some original design features are lacking. And it is so noticeable here.
